What is "Black Amber"?

Black Amber is more commonly known as Jet. Jet is a mineraloid as it has an organic origin, being derived from decaying wood under extreme pressure. Hence the fact that the beads are light in weight and not heavy like stones.
It was known in the middle ages as "black amber" because of its ability - like that of amber - to become electrically charged.
