Over recent years I have started attending workshops at Spoilt Rotten, and this year 2019, they really stepped up their game and invited a lot of new tutors to teach, so it all looked good. At the start of the year I booked a couple of workshops and when the requirements lists went up purchased my beads. Unfortunately for this last workshop Fran Griffiths - Paradise Lariat, it looked like I might have to work. As soon as I knew this which was about 1 month beforehand, I asked if they could try and resell my ticket. Well they made it available on their site as a space, but did absolutely nothing to promote it and say that tickets were still available. My ticket did not get sold so I still had my space (work depending). On the night before the workshop I did ended up working during the night and into the early hours of the morning (5am), so I called in and spoke to Juliet and she advised that I could transfer my ticket to a remote one and purchase the mandatory kit for £70! Explained that I did not need a kit, as I had originally planned to attend the event and therefore I had my beads. Juliet said she would speak to Fran. A few days later I get an email from Fran giving me kit options (none of them we in my colours), and telling me to send a cheque for £70 or call her to pay by debit card. I guess Juliet's conversation with Fran went well...I responded to Fran copying in Juliet on the email explaining things and that all I want is a copy of the pattern that I would have received if I had attended the workshop. Making a kit mandatory for "remote tickets" is cashing in on someone's inability (for whatever reason) to attend the physical class and I do not like or appreciate it. Interestingly the mandatory kits for remote tickets only seem to apply to Fran Griffiths workshops. Not impressed at all. It is now over two weeks since I sent that email to Fran (bead artist) and Juliet (Spoilt Rotten), and I have received no response from either of them and no pattern in the post. So my choices are to (a) loose £40 that I paid for the workshop, or (b) pay out an additional £70 for a kit in a colourway that I do not like and will never use. Fantastic way to treat your customers!
