Our 18k gold plated lobster clasps are finished with a resin coating over the gold plate. This extra layer helps the gold plating last much longer than standard gold plate, which can wear away quite quickly.

Because of this protective coating, you may find that the clasp is fused closed when you first receive it.

This is completely normal. Simply use a pair of chain nose pliers (or similar) to force open the clasp (it can be quite strong). After opening and closing it a few times, it should begin to operate smoothly, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful, long-lasting gold finish.
