Braided Friendship Bracelet - Spoilt Rotten Beads

Braided Friendship Bracelet

Braided Friendship Bracelets

Ingredients

Superlon Bead Cord in two colours (we used Bright Coral & Orange)

Metallic thread in gold

5-6mm Gold Plated Magnetic Clasp

Tools: Kumihimo Disk, Fevi Kwik Glue, 8 No Tangle Bobbins

Method

1. Set up your Kumihimo disk as shown in the picture below. You’ll need to add four strands of superlon cord to each of the grooves in the disk and to four of the grooves you’ll also need to add some metallic thread to four of the grooves. We used 70cm lengths of cord to make this bracelet. You will need to set up the disk as shown below and then knot all 8 bundles of thread together in the centre of the disk and attach a bull dog clip or a fishing weight to the knot in the centre of the disk. You will also need to wind up your cords onto No Tangle Bobbins to prevent them from getting very tangled as you braid.

2. Now braid the cords following the instructions in your Kumihimo Disk for an 8 strand weave. As you braid make sure that you pull the braid down through the hole in the disk every once in a while. After a few minutes of braiding you’ll be able to see your braid coming out of the centre of the disk. When your braid is the correct length (we recommend around 7 inches for a bracelet) you’ll need to wrap some of the metallic thread around each end to prevent the braid from coming undone. Then trim off the excess superlon cord and glue the ends of the braid into the magnetic clasp using the Fevi Kwik glue.
